Fai Ming Estate
10 Fai Ming Road, Fanling
in mobile
Fai Ming Estate is located in the lush valley of Wa Mei Shan in Fanling, set amid a picturesque landscape imbued with the sweet fragrance of flowers. The nearby streams and forests are home to a variety of native species, including butterflies, birds, and newts. We are committed to the integration of housing and nature. While constructing the Fai Ming Estate, we made every effort to conserve the original species for their sustainable development.

To expand and connect the habitats of nearby native species, we created an ecological transition zone behind the estate, which is now a 2,000 square metre “ecological garden” that not only offers residents a relaxing space but also provides a suitable ecological environment for the area’s native species.

The ecological garden boasts a wide variety of native trees and shrubs as well as flowers favoured by butterfly species such as Ixora chinensis (commonly known as "dragon boat flower" in Chinese) and asclepias curassavica. As a result, up to 78 butterfly species flutter around the ecological garden today, accounting for approximately one-third of the total butterfly species in Hong Kong, including some rare species like the Taraka Hamada and Celastrina Lavendularis Limbata.

The landscape design of Fai Ming Estate not only prioritises the conservation of native species but also provides residents a beautiful and natural recreational space that embodies the principles of “Integration, Co-existence & Sustainable Development”.

Features
Conservation of Native Species
We adopted suggestions from ecologists and implemented corresponding measures throughout the building layout, design, and construction process to conserve native species and provide a suitable ecological environment. For example, in the waterways and within a five-metre radius, drilling piles were used instead of common-impact piles to reduce vibrations and noise disturbance for native species, to avoid disrupting their hibernation. The ecological garden provides a habitat and feeding ground for native species of nearby forests and shrubs, restoring the diversity of butterfly species.
Green Irrigation
To incorporate sustainable and regenerative concepts in the estate, a Zero Irrigation System (ZIS) has been adopted. Collection boxes are placed in specific gardens to collect rainwater and nearby groundwater for irrigation, reducing the use of potable water.
