So Uk Estate

Discovering “Three Treasures of So Uk” & “God of Songs” Collection
So Uk Estate
No. 380 Po On Road, Sham Shui Po
in mobile
Built in the 1960s, So Uk Estate has been undergoing redevelopment since 2009. During the redevelopment, in addition to creating modern dwellings through innovative planning and design, the HA also considered conservation, specifically preserving buildings with distinctive features and collective memories. These buildings have become a part of the So Uk Heritage Trail. The “Three Treasures of So Uk” includes the Little White Shed, which once sold kerosene, the Swallow Pavilions with a ceiling mural painting, and the former estate entrance – a gold-painted portal.

So Uk is also the starting point of several celebrities. Apart from the “God of Song” Sam Hui and his brother Michael Hui, Wong Ka-kui and Wong Ka-keung from the band Beyond also had lived here. As you wander around the estate, you will discover surprises at every turn. For example, the mural "Home in So Uk" hides guitars and drums in memory of singers Sam Hui and Wong Ka-kui, while the exhibition corner at Maple House showcases the collection of the 'God of Songs', which is a major highlight!

Features
“Three Treasures of So Uk” + Collection of “God of Songs”
The Little White Shed
Located next to the Willow House, the Little White House was originally a place to store and sell kerosene. In the 1960s, kerosene was the main cooking fuel. The Little White House has been refashioned into a resting area for residents.
The Swallow Pavilions
Located next to the Cherry House, there are two arched pavilions, painted by painter Mak Wing in the early 1980s, with a mural on the ceiling depicting a view of the sky with doves from the estate open space. Mr Mak was commissioned to restore the mural to its original appearance. As before, these two pavilions continue to provide shade and shelter from the rain and can also be used as venues for community activities.
Gold-painted Portal
With “So Uk Estate” painted in gold Chinese characters against a black background, this portal was a landmark of the old estate. The portal is now placed at Phase 2 open space.
Maple House Exhibition Corner — Presenting the Collection of “God of Songs”
“Exhibition of Old Items in So Uk Estate”, an indoor exhibition corner located at the Maple House, showcases objects of daily use of past residents, such as typewriters, alarm and clothes. There’s a section displaying stage costumes donated by the “God of Songs” Sam Hui, as well as his vinyl records, guitar, and black-and-white photos, etc.
Opening Hour: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Interested visitors should contact the So Uk Estate Management Office at least 3 working days in advance for reservation.
