Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate
From The Past To The Present: Journey Through Nostalgia Cultural Treasures
Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate
189 Ngau Tau Kok Road
in mobile
Old housing estates are inevitably demolished and redeveloped, but the history and culture of the old estates are precious. How do we find a balance between development and conservation? The Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate offers valuable insights.

As part of the redevelopment of Upper and Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, the Housing Authority has thoughtfully designed retro-style sitting-out areas and exhibition spaces, including the “Heritage Corner” and “Heritage Gallery”. The design of these areas is aimed at evoking nostalgia of people and lifestyles of the residents in the past.

Visitors can embark on a nostalgic journey through the modern buildings of the estate and explore the rich history and culture of the old estate. The integration of old and new elements creates a unique cultural experience that highlights the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.

Features
The “Heritage Corner” with Hong Kong-style Tea Houses
The “Heritage Corner” at Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate was designed based on old Hong Kong-style tea houses once found in the estate. The space is decorated with characteristic cardboard tiles and booth seats, along with “Ngau Tau Kok Cha Chan Teng (Teahouse)” signboard.
The architects also repurposed the iron gates of old shops that were preserved during the demolition as decorations.
Residents can enjoy their leisure time in this corner, chatting with neighbours and reminiscing about the past.
The “Heritage Gallery” with Common Memories
The "Heritage Gallery" is like a tunnel through time, taking you through the history of Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate and recreating the mood of the housing estate in the past.
The exhibits include historical photos of Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate, and nostalgic items collected from the old Ngau Tau Kok Estate such as tea sets from the old noodle stalls, lamps, fans and mailboxes from the hardware shop.
